Online Casinos: Recent Regulations & Laws

Online-Casinos-Recent-Regulations-Laws

Online free play slots casinos are some of the most profitable businesses in the UK. The numbers of players are growing exponentially as we progress further into 2022, much to the joy of the gambling providers.

However, after consulting the players and the members of the gambling industry, the UK Gambling Commission has announced a new package of rules and regulations for all the gambling providers to follow.

Implementing these changes is going to make online gambling safer, less intensive and also provide players with more control over their games and spending. All about these new regulations is outlined in this article.

Slots – The Most Expensive Online Game to Date

As it stands, online slots hold the largest share of the gambling market. The game does just what it was intended to – the players take part in a high-risk, volatile slot play which often sets them back quite a bit.

The UK Gambling Commission saw a few problems with the way that slots are played these days and issued the following changes to take effect:

rules and regulations for all gambling providers
  • A ban of game features that speed up the gameplay, create an illusion of control over the outcome, as well as a ban on positive sound effects/imagery when the return is equal to zero, or at/below the stake level. In other words, we should shortly stop seeing games that portray a no-win as a win.
  • A complete ban of the autoplay function in slots. The UK Gambling Commission argues that players tend to lose track of their spending when the slot is on autoplay.
  • There will have to be a gap of at least 2.5 seconds in between spins on all the slot games offered in the UK. Again, this is to decrease the rate of spending with slot games.
  • Gambling operators must clearly display to the player their total losses and wins as well as the time played during any online slots session.

The new rules and regulations are required to be implemented by all the gambling providers by the 31st of October 2021, so it shouldn’t be long before we start seeing some changes.

In the words of the Minister for Sports, Tourism and Heritage Nigel Huddleston: “I welcome the Gambling Commission’s tough measures as we continue our comprehensive review of gambling laws to make sure they’re fit for the digital age.”. Sounds promising!

The Most Controversial Policy Rumours

It would seem that slots are taking a real beating this year with the release of new rules and regulations. However, the list of changes to take place does not end here. There is another new rule, a highly controversial one, which hasn’t been finalised yet but is bound to be soon.

Gambling lawmakers have proposed to axe the maximum bet on slot games in online casinos. At present, players can wager as much as £100 on a single spin in some games. Well not for long! The maximum bet in online casinos is rumoured to be equalised to the stakes available on offline gaming machines (FOBTs, land-based slot and betting machines). These stakes currently start at £0.1 and end at £2.

This law has sparked quite some discussion, with some players bidding good riddance to the £50-£100 stakes and others ardently protesting and claiming that no two bankrolls are the same and some players wish to wager sky-high amounts.

We should see soon enough what is decided on the matter. Until then, we would like to invite you to follow us for more informative content and as always, we wish you huge wins!
