The sad fact is that many new startups fail in their first year. If you have made it past 12 months of trading then you are doing well and deserve a pat on the back. Now is the time to consolidate your position in the marketplace and to expand.
For many businesses, this means a move to a new location. That tiny office space that served you well when your business was in its infancy is no longer suitable and it is time to move on. Now all you have to do is find an office that suits your needs.
Here are a Few Tips on What You Should Look Out for in Your New Office Space
#1) Find an Office that Offers Room to Grow
The key to a successful move is to engage a firm that offers local moving services and who are experienced in office moves. They will be able to advise and support you in each stage of the move and plan it carefully so that it causes minimum disruption to your business.

This does not mean, however, that you will want to be moving every six months! Therefore, it is important that you choose an office space where there is room for further expansion.
If you cannot afford to pay for the extra space that you do not actually need at the moment, there are ways around this.
You could try to negotiate with the landlord so that you get the first chance to take over any adjacent office space when it becomes vacant. This option can give you the flexibility that you need without taking on a huge financial commitment.
#2) Find an Office That Suits Your Key Employees
Every business has one or two key employees. These are the people that you really don’t want to lose and who keep your business running. It is not a good idea to upset them!
If they live close to your current location, it may not suit them if you move to the other side of town or even to a city or State. You cannot assume that they will move you. It may be in your best interests to stay close to a location that is convenient to them so that you can retain their services.
The same goes for external contractors and people who provide you will professional services. If you have built up a trusted network of IT, accounting and financial support, it may not be a good idea to move a long way away. You will have to start all over again and this can be very time consuming and frustrating.
#3) Find an Office That is Convenient for Clients
Some businesses require clients to visit them and you have to make this as convenient as you can. Look at the transport arrangements around your new office location.
- What are the roads like?
- Are they congested and is it hard to park?
This is likely to put clients off visiting you. The same goes for bus and train links. If it is easier to get to your competitors then you are in trouble.
